5 pictures (aka a real post!)

I promised I would do this for a while now, and here it is. I have five pictures (with explanations) to share with you that will sort of sum up what I have been up to.

So over a month ago I was in Biloxi for the Sr. High mission trip. This was a highly successful trip, and a bit odd for church mission trips, namely because we did nothing fun. Everyday it was work all day, up to 10 hours on some days, and teens were fine with that. It was also a good trip because all participants really got to feel like they were helping people, and I think by the end of the trip the selfish motivators for helping had faded away, and they were doing it for the right reasons. This picture is in front of the house I worked in. The entire week was spent painting. On Monday the walls were not quite ready for paint, and by Friday the house was done being painted.

Of course, Biloxi was not the only trip I went on in June. I also took the Jr. High to Southern Indiana. We were suppose to tear down a building, but that fell through at literally the last second, so instead our major task was moving a playground. That took a day and a half. We also spent half a day moving boxes, and another half day tearing down a shed (since destruction had been promised). The final day of the trip involved going to Holiday World, which was awesome (and where this picture comes from). The Voyage officially became one of my favorite roller coasters. Seriously, it is awesome.

After those trips, I found myself playing A LOT of racing games, which is highly unusual because racing games (especially the realistic ones) are not my cup of tea. I rented Forza 2 where this car, that I painted myself, comes from. I also bought DiRT, which I really like. It is a realistic sim, but it is of off road racing and I can assure you that even though I am having fun with the game, you will NEVER EVER want to be on a dirt or gravel mountain road with me.

Something else I have been doing this summer is writing. There is a youth in the youth group who love to read and write, so I am writing a serial story with her. We are taking turns going back and forth adding to the story. The story has centaurs (as bad guys) hence the picture. It has been a long time since I have written a fiction story (not counting that little Star Wars Fan fiction I did a while back). I have come to grips with the fact that, I am really not that great at it, but it is fun.

We do the Blockbuster total access thing, so I have watched a decent amount of movies. However the last several I have not been that big on. Days of Glory was ok. However I can not say that I really enjoyed watching Azumi, Donnie Brasko, or Apocolypto that much. However, the most recent one, Donnie Darko, blew my mind. This is the type of movie that you will hate a ton or it will absolutly infest your brain. For me, I can not get it out of my head. I found it to be brilliant and the more I think about it the more brilliant it is.
